Why Cohesive exists
Most tools built for this problem assume the answer is less. Block the app, lock the phone, count the hours, hold the streak. That works for about a week, and then you learn to route around your own blocker — because the blocker was never arguing with the part of you that reached for the phone. It just stood in front of it.
Cohesive starts somewhere else. The problem is not that you used your phone for an hour; it is that the hour happened and you were not in it. A meal eaten in front of a screen was not eaten. An hour at the gym spent on your phone between sets was not trained. An evening beside someone, half of it in a feed, was not spent with them. What is lost is the experience that never happened — and no counter measures that.
So Cohesive does one thing: it opens a pause in the ten seconds between reaching and scrolling, lets you say what is actually happening in your own words, and asks one question about it. It never blocks. It never scores you. If you see what the behaviour gives you and what it costs and carry on anyway, that is a complete success — you made a choice, which is the whole point.
It is also built to be deleted. When you can catch the moment without the app, it says so and tells you to cancel. That is not modesty; a tool that needs you forever has a different goal than you do.
Who is responsible
Cohesive is built and operated by Alejandro Carbajo, a sole trader established in Spain. It is part of his Out of Autopilot work. There is no team, no investors, and no growth department — which is why there are no streaks and no engagement metrics to defend.
His stance on the product’s privacy model is the short version of the whole policy: I build the camera; I never look through it.
