Delete your Cohesive account

Deletion is available inside the app, under account settings. If you have already uninstalled it, write to [email protected] from your account address and the request is handled the same way. It works whether or not you are a paying subscriber; it is never held back to make leaving harder, and there is no retention offer or exit survey in front of the door.

If you joined the early-access waitlist before the app shipped and want that address removed, one email to the same place is enough — no account and no reason required.

What it removes

Deletion runs in one order, and the order is the point: your records go first and the account row goes last, because once the row is gone nothing can name your records again.

Your catches, your conversations and your map. In production these live in Cohesive’s database, and deletion issues real DELETE statements against every table that holds them — the map document itself, the record of each moment, the search vectors built from your words, and the engine’s own log of what it asked you. The rows go; they are not flagged as hidden.
Your account record, and everything the database hangs off it — sessions, refresh tokens, subscription rows, referrals, notification settings.
Your sign-in links. The rows behind a magic link are filed under your email address rather than your account, so they used to outlive it. They now die in the same step as the account.
Your record at each processor Cohesive sent data to: the identity provider, the payment processors, and the email provider. They are asked by name, using identifiers read out of the rows that are about to be deleted.

What it refuses to fake

If any of those steps does not complete, nothing is deleted and the app says so: your account is still here. A partial deletion is never reported as a finished one, because a half-deleted account is one nobody can finish deleting. Ask again — repeating the request is the whole repair, and every step is safe to repeat.

Your phone stops being able to write immediately

Your device holds a sign-in token that stays technically valid for up to fifteen minutes. It stops working the moment your account record is gone: every request checks the account, not just the token. A tap from a copy of the app that has not caught up yet cannot put anything back.

What survives, and why

Rows about operations, with the account reference removed. That an analytics event fired, that an email was sent, and what your email settings were: those rows stay and the link to your account is cut. In two of them the email address itself stays — the delivery log for a message already sent, and the consent record that proves an unsubscribe was honoured. That is more than the account reference, and calling it anonymous would be untrue.
Billing records, for the period Spanish tax law requires, which is longer than the life of your account. These are invoices and payment references, not your map.
Backups, for up to eight days. The database is backed up once a day by the hosting provider, and eight of them are on hand at any time — as this page was last checked, the oldest was seven days and fifteen hours old. So a record deleted today can still exist inside an unexpired backup for up to eight days, and then it is gone with that backup. Backups are restored only to recover the service from a failure. They are never opened to look at one person’s data, never searched, and never used to bring a deleted account back.
An export you already downloaded. It is a file on your machine and it is yours. Nothing here reaches it, and nothing here should.

A short security log of the deletion itself is also kept, so the deletion can be shown to have happened.

Subscriptions bought through an app store

If you subscribe through Apple or Google, that subscription is held by the store, not by Cohesive, and deleting your Cohesive account will not cancel it. Cancel it first, in the store, or you will keep being billed for a product you can no longer sign in to:

iPhone or iPad — Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Cohesive → Cancel.
Android — Play Store → your profile → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → Cohesive → Cancel.

Cohesive will say this plainly at the point of deletion too, rather than letting you find out on your next statement.

Export first, if you want it

Export sits next to deletion and works independently of it, so you can take your map with you before removing it. It does not require a subscription. Once the file is on your machine it is yours, and deleting your account does not reach it.
